Organized by Social Care Skills (SAA Trusted Partner)
Effective supervision should be more than a management process or an opportunity to review tasks. In residential settings, it provides an important space for practitioners to reflect on their work, explore the emotional impact of supporting others, consider professional decision-making, and identify opportunities for learning and development.

Course Highlights
- The course explores the principles and purpose of reflective practice and its relationship with effective supervision in residential settings.
- Participants will examine the difference between reflective supervision and supervision that focuses primarily on administration, compliance, or task completion. The session considers how effective supervision can balance accountability, support, professional development, safeguarding, and reflection.
- Key areas include creating safe and constructive spaces for reflection, asking effective reflective questions, exploring professional judgement and decision-making, recognising the emotional impact of practice, and using significant events and challenging situations as opportunities for learning.
- The course also considers the responsibilities of both supervisor and supervisee, the importance of preparation and meaningful recording, and how supervision can identify development needs, challenge poor or inconsistent practice, recognise good practice, and contribute to wider organisational learning.
